Following on from our landmark year for PrepWorld, in which we celebrated our 10-year anniversary and moved into our new factory in Northfleet, we're pleased to announce we have been awarded with a BRCGS certification, an internationally recognised benchmark that helps us guarantee compliance with food safety and hygiene standards for our customers.
When moving to a new site, all previous external certifications are not transferrable, which meant we were required to go through a lengthy onboarding process. Our main external certification is of our food safety management system, known as BRCGS (previously BRC). This standard is one of a select few food safety standards that meet the requirements of the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) and is an absolute necessity for any food business in the UK.
Our recertification process could only commence when we had gathered enough history operating at our new site. The examination of our system was conducted by two highly experienced auditors from NSF over two days, involving colleagues from virtually all departments in the business.
Glen Brittin, our Head of Technical, believes the success of an audit is down to three important factors:
"The organising team, who ensure the audit process is smooth, well-managed, well-catered, and efficient at guiding the auditors through our documentation and our site.
The proper implementation of the standard and all documents for all our employees to use, which can be found in one single place.
Our people - whether they are subject matter experts, being interviewed, or just showing an auditor what they do, are vital to our success.
We have actively improved in all these areas over the last few years, and we are delighted to share our results."
PrepWorld Northfleet is now certified to the BRCGS standard with an AA grading.
